I have been living with my own chronic pain for over three decades as I’m writing this. I can remember the early years when I suffered with my pain and believe me I never want to return to those bleak and horrible times when my pain controlled, and consumed, my entire life. In my book Freedom From Suffering: A Journey of Hopeyou can read about many instances of people overcoming adversity by developing and following seven strategic steps.
I’ve been living with my own chronic pain for over 32 years and there were times in the first few years where I fell into a deep dark place of despair and hopelessness—a chronic pain trance. Over the past three decades I’ve been working with other people living with chronic pain who were in similar emotional pits. For me the journey out of despair and into hope came as a result of going through a painful grieving process and finding a Spiritual Mentor. That is why I wrote my book Freedom From Suffering: A Journey Of Hope. Please also watch my Video Blog and read the remainder of this post.

When I was growing up I can remember my grandparents who were in their sixties and I thought I hope I never get that old. As most children do, they look at older adults and think they’re ancient. In fact in my family and social circle—which was primarily blue-collar hard labor working class—most people did age fast and hard. This was especially true since most of them also drink heavy and smoked like chimneys. Please watch my Video Blog and then read the remainder of this post.
One of the most powerful and longest lasting pieces of wisdom I received in my martial arts endeavors was how to turn adversity into opportunity by staying in gratitude. I know this has been an integral part of my chronic pain management plan over the years. Please watch the video below and then read the remainder of my post.
