This week I’ve been conducting an intensive Addiction-Free Pain Management® Certification Training for the Laurel Ridge Treatment Center’s Staff. This is part of a yearlong program for Laurel Ridge to become both a Gorski-CENAPS® Relapse Prevention Center of Excellence as well as my newest Addiction-Free Pain Management® Center of Excellence. Check out my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of this post that’s all about Laurel Ridge.

Below are seven strategic steps that I believe are necessary for people undergoing chronic pain management to learn in order to overcome obstacles for obtaining appropriate and effective chronic pain management. The rational and more in depth explanation for each of the following steps can be found in my book Managing Pain and Coexisting Disorders: Using the Addiction-Free Pain Management® System. People living with chronic pain and coexisting disorders, including addiction, have many obstacles that often make helping them very challenging. Many of these people have tremendous amounts of grief and loss as well as other problems that lower their quality of life. Some of the other major roadblocks are the patients’ high levels of denial and resistance to treatment. Please watch my Video Blog Below and then read the remainder of my post.
The past two days I’ve been conducting an intensive relapse prevention skills training for selected staff at Advocate Addiction Treatment Program. On day one I introduced the concept of starting recovery with relapse prevention and starting relapse prevention with denial management. The staff were very excited and we broke into discussion groups frequently throughout the two days to brainstorm how this new information could be integrated into their current treatment program. Check out my video below and then read the remainder of this post.
This past year I’ve been helping several agencies implement my Addiction-Free Pain Management® System into their programing. The past several years have led to more and more people understanding that the prescription pain medication problem is really spiraling out of control. There are many reasons for this but a big one I’m concerned about is people living with chronic pain not receiving appropriate treatment interventions and end up with a substance abuse problem as a result. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of this post.
Today I want to share my amazing trip to Arizona last week. Community Bridges Inc. (CBI) is a program that covers most of the state of Arizona. CBI is in the process of becoming a Gorski-CENAPS® Center of Excellence and also an Addiction-Free Pain Management® Center of Excellence. Last week I conducted a 44 hour advanced training in Relapse Prevention Therapy Certification. Please check out my video below and then read the remainder of my post.

This past week I’ve been in Norristown Pennsylvania at the Valley Forge Medical Center’s (VFMC) Addiction-Free Pain Management® Center of Excellence program. At VFMC they help people living with chronic pain who were very frustrated when they weren’t receiving the pain relief they want and deserve and unfortunately many turned to continuously increasing doses of pain medications. Unfortunately these people often used the wrong type or too much medication and sometimes it worked but more often it made the problem worse in the long run. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of my post.
