Why Does It Take A Team For Effective Chronic Pain Management?

Using Suboxone for Chronic Pain Management When Addiction Is A Factor

When people are undergoing chronic pain management they want help stopping or relieving their pain symptoms and are looking for anything that will stop their suffering—I know as I’ve been in that place. What they may not realize is that some pain medications can actually cause or increase the pain symptoms that they are using the medication to manage—this is called opioid induced hyperalgesia or pain re-bound. That is why it is crucial for people undergoing chronic pain management to educate themselves and learn as much as possible about their chronic pain condition as well as the most effective treatment options. Please watch my Video Blog then read the remainder of my post.

It Is Important To Manage Depression for Effective Chronic Pain Management

Depression is one of the common of coexisting disorders for someone living with chronic pain. People living with chronic pain and coexisting disorders, including addiction, have many obstacles that often make helping them very challenging. Dr. Grinstead Training Advocate Addiction Treatment Staff In Relapse Prevention

The past two days I’ve been conducting an intensive relapse prevention skills training for selected staff at Advocate Addiction Treatment Program. On day one I introduced the concept of starting recovery with relapse prevention and starting relapse prevention with denial management. The staff were very excited and we broke into discussion groups frequently throughout the two days to brainstorm how this new information could be integrated into their current treatment program. Check out my video below and then read the remainder of this post.

Understanding People Suffering With Chronic Pain And Coexisting Disorders

This past year I’ve been helping several agencies implement my Addiction-Free Pain Management® System into their programing. The past several years have led to more and more people understanding that the prescription pain medication problem is really spiraling out of control. There are many reasons for this but a big one I’m concerned about is people living with chronic pain not receiving appropriate treatment interventions and end up with a substance abuse problem as a result. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of this post.

The Impact Of Seasonal Depression On Chronic Pain Management

Please watch my Video Blog and then read the remainder of this post.

Valley Forge Medical Center - Addiction-Free Pain Management® Center of Excellence

This past week I’ve been in Norristown Pennsylvania at the Valley Forge Medical Center’s (VFMC) Addiction-Free Pain Management® Center of Excellence program. At VFMC they help people living with chronic pain who were very frustrated when they weren’t receiving the pain relief they want and deserve and unfortunately many turned to continuously increasing doses of pain medications. Unfortunately these people often used the wrong type or too much medication and sometimes it worked but more often it made the problem worse in the long run. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of my post.

The Addiction-Free Pain Management® System – A Synergistic Treatment Approach

When someone is living with chronic pain, they can get very frustrated when they aren’t receiving the pain relief they want and deserve. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of my post.

Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of this post.

Avoid The Instant Gratification Mindset For More Effective Chronic Pain Management

Some people develop a “need” for instant gratification (I want it and I want it now). Unfortunately, some of the acute pain medication promises of instant relief lead people into this instant gratification trap to manage a chronic pain problem—they are only interested in the quick fix. Please watch my Video Blog Below and then read the remainder of this post.

How Neuropathic Chronic Pain Management Is Different

If you are living with neuropathic pain like I am you know that the treatment can be frustrating and often ineffective. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of this post.

Dr. Grinstead On When Does Pain Relief Become Drug Seeking Behavior?

I have a lot of compassion for healthcare providers who treat chronic pain patients in California. On one hand the DEA is playing big brother and their war on drugs has now moved to a war on pain management. This “war on pain management” must stop. On the other hand some patients are not getting good treatment.  Too much is at stake. Please watch my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of my post.

Dr. Grinstead On Understanding Depression For Effective Chronic Pain Management

Many people living with chronic pain develop an automatic and unconscious way of coping with chronic pain that I call the chronic pain trance—I know I was there in my early years. While I was in this trance what helped keep me stuck was my depression. It forced me to finally reach out and get therapy and medication management. Please watch my video below and then read the remainder of my post.

The Addiction Pain Syndrome™ — The Synergistic Impact when Chronic Pain and Addiction Meet

I’ve been working with people with chronic pain and coexisting problems, including addiction, since 1984. I have found this to be both very challenging and very rewarding. My first challenge was to educate others in what I had been doing well for the past decade. Please check out my Video Blog below and then read the remainder of my post on the synergistic impact of chronic pain and addiction.
