A Personal Message From Dr. Grinstead
I have experienced many losses, without which I never would have found the path I am on today – one that allows me to help others and make contributions to individuals and professionals for which I am very grateful for.
You may not know this, but I used to work in the construction field. I was very good at what I did yet longed for something more. I was training in the martial arts and hoped to open my own Dojo one day. An injury on the job was not the exit I planned for. I lost everything – my identity as a Master Electrician, a Karate Instructor, and the ability to make a living – thus began my journey navigating the worker compensation system.
As a result of that accident and personal recovery work, I completed my education in psychology and the addiction treatment field, specializing in working with people who suffer with chronic pain and co-existing psychological disorders. I do this work because I want people to know that an injury or on-going pain condition is not the end of their life. I live with pain every day – some days are worse than others, but I do not let pain prevent me from living my life to the fullest. I want people to know that they don’t have to suffer with their pain. They can thrive in spite of it!
